Andy Warhol (1928-1987)

Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA. Artist, printmaker, film director.

After graduating from Carnegie Institute of Technology, he worked as a commercial illustrator. From the early 1960s, he began creating works featuring images symbolic of mass consumer society, such as Campbell's Soup Cans and Marilyn Monroe, becoming a leading figure in Pop Art.

Through the repetitive expression using the silkscreen technique, he continuously questioned the relationship between art and mass production, and art and consumer culture. He was active in various fields including painting, printmaking, film, publishing, and music production, greatly influencing 20th-century art.

His representative works include "Campbell's Soup Cans," "Marilyn Monroe," "Electric Chair," "Mao," "Flowers," and "Endangered Species."

Major collections include the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, The Andy Warhol Museum, Tate Modern, and Centre Pompidou.
